Did you Disconnect the Battery Before Installing Your Intake?

1.) Okay, I know many people have different Opinions. But are you supposed to disconnect the battery before installing it?

2.) And also, did YOU disconnect the battery before you installed it? And did you experience any CEL's?

Its a good idea to disconnect your battery. I always have. I helped install and Injen intake on my friends 06 Si and he got a CEL. I disconnected the battery and it went away.

You dont really have to take it off either. The computer will automatically relearn everything anyway. You really only need to disconnect the battery if you get a cel.

In my 05 ss/sc, when i installed the K&N filter, i disconnected two things from the air box. One was the big MAF, and I dont know what the ohter one was. DOes anyone know? It was a small box connector to the box.

its one of those precautionary measures when working on a vehicle...... if you read say, a haynes or chiltons manual... it even tells you to disconnect the battery when doing arbitrary tasks like oil changes

Battery should be disconnected for any kind of work IMO. Better to play it safe I suppose.

It isnt a waste of time. Its actually a precaution that someone would take so that they dont accidentally short out something and cause electrical damage.

For a poor example; You go to change the rotors on your car and you obviously grab them with your hands to put them on. One should spray brake cleaner on them to remove all the oils from your hands. Its not necessary, but you do it as a precaution so you dont slam your car into something.

I mean, lets say you didnt, and your CEL came on. What do you do? Disconnect it then, then the CEL should go away? Or is the CEL going to be there every time that intake is on there?

If you disconnect the battery, after you get a cel, and reconnect the battery, start up your car & run it, the cel should never reappear again.

If its the wrong size intake. IE using an intake designed for a 2.2 application on a 2.4 I got a cel even after the negative disconnect. As one said before me. Live and Learn.

Oh, okay...

How do you disconnect the battery? Remove the red (positive) or black (negative) first? Red one right?

Im a noob, yes I know. But I havent done this since Auto tech.

I didn't remove the negative from the battery. Of course I have a CEL from when I put my full exhaust on.
