No...just no. Hell, get a Malibu. They're nice. Or the GTO. Or the G8 as mentioned below.

You can even find a CTS-V for 15k if you look hard enough.

Edited: Because he wants a back seat

Or a G8 GT. Those are sexy, 4 door and if you know people at a dealer they can prolly get you a good deal on one. I always loved the blacked out and red/black ones just bought my tc cause its easier to get more power out of it.

Not if the recall was done. Just like any other car, it has been taken care of, it'll be fine. the LS motors will last 150k+ miles easily.

The rear diff is a huge problem with those cars.

if I had that much, I'd get either a STI or a SS turbo.

If you shop it right, an SS turbo sedan is within reach for 15-6k, and you would love the **** out of it.

I'm always getting questions and comments, and modding it is easy and fun.

LS2SS,

I know I’m chiming in a bit late. Looks like you've already gotten great feedback and you're already checking out some vehicles.
I'm not sure if it would be of interest to you, but with your budget you could look into a new Chevy Sonic (you had mentioned hatchbacks, which are an option with the Sonic).
For pre-owned vehicles, maybe look into gmcertified.com - all of the GM brands have Certified Pre-Owned vehicles that come with an extension of the Bumper to Bumper warranty and you might be able to find some nice vehicles in your area there.

Hope this helps!

@OP unless you like being crushed in your car I would stay away from the Sonic. I test drove 1 a month ago and I felt like i was being crushed and I am only 5'9 and 140lbs. and my 10 year old sister (regular size 10 yr old girl) who was in the back seat said it was to small as soon as we got outta the car. I will say though the interior is nice for the price
